Dr Carsten Palme is an Otolaryngology ( Ear, Nose and Throat ) Head & Neck Surgeon and holds clinical appointments at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Centre, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Westmead Hospitals, Sydney.
Dr Carsten Palme is Clinical Professor and Joint Head of Discipline Otolaryngology ( ENT ) Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Sydney, Australia. Dr Palme is the Director of Head Neck Surgery at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Cancer Centre which is the busiest and largest Head Neck Unit in NSW treating the most number of complex Head and Neck Cancer Cases.
After attending medical school at the University of Sydney Dr Palme completed four years of advanced training in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002.
Dr Palme completed post-training fellowships in the American Head and Neck Society Head and Neck Oncology Program, University
of Toronto, Toronto, Canada and in Laser Head and Neck Surgery, University of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany. Dr Palme was fortunate to be trained by two giants in the field of Head Neck Surgery, Professors Patrick Gullane ( Toronto, Canada ) and Wolfgang Steiner ( Goettingen, Germany )
Dr Palme is the inaugural recipient in 2009 of the Chris O’Brien Travelling Fellowship of the American Head and Neck Society. In 2010 Dr Palme was awarded the Coman Kennedy Laser Scholarship by the Australian and New Zealand Head Neck Society. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons honoured Dr Palme in 2012 with an " Outstanding Achievement Award ".
Dr Palme is active in clinical research and has authored a number of peer reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr Palme is a regular invited speaker at both national and international meetings. Dr Palme has a strong interest in training and education.
